The market of entry-level camera still challenges the pressure of the “Smartphone Challenge” and has negative development compared to the first half year 2013. Imaging products are benefitting from stable demand throughout the world. Japan, Russia, the Ukraine and Kazakhstan are all enjoying double-digit growth rates, while in Western Europe, markets are characterised by growing added values. Trends within the imaging sector in China remain stable in value, despite high demand for feature/ smartphones. Worldwide, there has been no break in interest in photography. The European imaging market, after contracting in early 2012 returned to growth in the second quarter. Sharp declines in the mainly southern European countries, which have been badly affected by the Eurozone crisis have been balanced out by continuing rapid growth in Eastern European countries. The increase in sales has largely been due to SLR and compact system cameras, while cheaper fixed lens cameras have been affected by mobile phones. It is likely that sales of imaging products in 2012 will be around the same level as in 2011

As the Imaging Association together with its subsidiary Prophoto GmbH and GfK report, lenses have been among the best-selling photo-accessories in 2011. Based on preliminary estimates, sales in Germany of 1.52 million lenses are predicted for 2011. That represents volume growth of almost seven percent compared with 2010. According to initial calculations by GfK, the value of the worldwide photo and imaging market is expected in 2011 to reach around 133 billion Euros, representing growth of almost 4 percent compared with 2009.
